UCD 3-0 Finn Harps
Finn Harps slipped to bottom of the Premier Division table after losing to UCD at the Belfield Bowl on Friday night. It was the fourth defeat on the trot for Ollie Horgan’s side with all the goals coming in the second-half. The hosts started well with Kevin Coffey slipping clear of the Harps defence inside two minutes but the winger dragged his poor shot wide. Then Richie O’Farrell forced a fine save from Ciaran Gallagher at the expense of a corner. O’Farrell came close again on 12 minutes and that was followed by a Gary O’Neill effort that went over the bar.
It took Harps a good while to settle and their best attacking move didn’t come till the 23rd minute when Harry Ascroft did very well near the end line to find Caolon McAleer but the Omagh man failed to trouble Conor Kearns as his strike went over the bar. Kearns was then equal to a Sean Boyd and just before the break Gallagher did well to turn Coffey’s deflected shot around the post.
O’Neill was denied by Gallagher early in the second half while at the other end McAleer should have done better after being setup by Raff Cretaro. O’Neill came very close from a long range free kick before his side broke the deadlock on 61 minutes. Mahdy latched onto an O’Neill pass and while Gallagher did brilliantly to push out his attempt, Timmy Molloy was on his toes to steer the rebound into the back of the Harps net.
UCD doubled their advantage on 72 minutes when O’Neill again provided the assist this time O’Farrell was the beneficiary who placed and he angled a shot past Gallagher.
O’Farrell with his second goal made it 3-0 seven minutes from the end of normal time after being setup by Mahdy.
