Finn Harps manager Ollie Horgan says his players must be prepared for a UCD side who will be going all out to secure a win at the Belfield Bowl tomorrow night (kick-off 7.45). Horgan watched UCD lose 1-0 to Sligo Rovers at the Showgrounds last Saturday and it was a game he felt the Students should have got something from, based on their performance over the 90 plus minutes. “We must be prepared for an onslaught from UCD tomorrow night. They were unlucky not to get something from the game against Sligo Rovers and that will make them doubly determined to throw everything at getting three points against us tomorrow night on their home pitch.”
The Harps boss pointed to his side’s poor record against the Students which yielded just one point from three League of Ireland First Division games last season as the yardstick to base a prediction in relation to the meeting of the bottom two teams in the top flight. UCD are the basement side with just a point from five games. Harps are only a point better off with six Premier Division matches played.
“We were beaten twice by UCD last season and drew with them in Belfield near the end of the season. They might only have a point this season but we are only one better than them. UCD also have a game in hand on us now. Neither of us have won a league game so far this season so the pressure is on both of us try and get results as soon as possible. The last week hasn’t been good for us with three defeats on the trot but we have to batter on. If we keep positive and put the work in hopefully more points will come but it’s going to be very difficult for us.”
Horgan has been dealt a blow with the news that Gareth Harkin is out long term with achilles and calf injuries sustained in the game against Shamrock Rovers in Tallaght . As well as Harkin, Mark Timlin is still on the injured list. Nathan Boyle has emerged as a concern along with Caolan McAleer who missed training earlier in the week with a knock. Both have been rated as doubtful by the Harps boss. On the plus side John Kavanagh should return to the squad.
