“Hopefully the changes will work against Waterford” Horgan

Finn Harps manager Ollie Horgan will be forced into a number of personnel changes for tomorrow night’s League of Ireland Premier Division game against Waterford in Ballybofey (kick-off 8.00).

The game is kindly sponsored by Northface Access Services.

It appears that four players, regular central defenders Sam Todd and skipper Keith Cowan along with midfielders Mark Coyle and Caolan McAleer will serve one match bans having as a result of the accumulation of yellow cards. However it’s understood, the four wouldn’t have been suspended at the one time, if the Harps game had gone ahead last weekend as per the original pre-season fixture list. Horgan’s side had been scheduled to play Shamrock Rovers but that fixture was pulled forward to near the start of the season because of UEFA U17 Championship games that were taking place at the Tallaght Stadium.

“Look hopefully the changes will work for us. It is what it is now but it’s really difficult for us to have to face into the Waterford game tomorrow night with what appears to be four players, all out, at the one time. The four lads have been regulars for most of the season and we still have Gareth Harkin, Mark Timlin, Harry Ascroft and Ciaran Gallagher ruled out because of injuries. Sean Boyd picked up another hamstring injury and had to come off against UCD two weeks ago at Finn Park so he is doubtful. On the flip side it’s certainly another chance for players who had to be patient on the subs bench to start a game and stake a claim for to be in team every week. They deserve their chance  so hopefully now they can give a good account of themselves, that gives us a chance of taking the three points. That will probably mean also that a couple of the U19s will come into the match day squad. Waterford have players who will punish us if we are not fully focused. You have the likes of JJ Lunney, Shane Duggan, Hery, Akinade, Drina and Georgie Poynton who are excellent footballers going forward. They will take some watching from our lads and at the same time we’ll have to find ways of getting at them and scoring. Ideally we need to score first and see where it goes from there” Horgan said.
