The Finn Harps U15s welcome St. Patrick’s Athletic to the Curragh in Killygordon on this Saturday (kick-off 2.00). Both sides had impressive phase 1 campaigns, topping their respective groups to qualify for the Elite section.
Paul McBride’s men began their phase 2 campaign with a 4-1 loss away to Dundalk FC on Oriel Park. An early goal from Conor Campbell gave Harps the lead, however two quickfire strikes from Dundalk’s front two had Harps down at half-time and a further two goals late in the match saw Dundalk run out comfortable winners.
Reflecting on the match, McBride took positives from the defeat, “We learnt a lot from the Dundalk defeat. We didn’t get anywhere close to the level we were at during the first phase and Dundalk took their opportunities when they arose. We had chances, but didn’t take them. 4-1 is harsh on the boys, because they were in the game for long periods in the second half but failed to test their keeper properly and that’s basically it. Harsh but realistic. We’ve worked on a few things from last week and we hope we can bring it into the Pats match and take it from there.”
St. Pats hosted Sligo Rovers in their opening match and came from two goals down to snatch a vital point in the closing stages. On the injury front, McBride will be without Colin Mooney this week. He welcomes back Cuan Lafferty. The Inishowen man has had an impressive debut season at LOI level and this will be a big boost to the wee Harps.
Kickoff is set for 2pm on this Saturday. All involved in the Under 15s would like to thank Warren and Laura Mooney of Mooney Boats, Killybegs, for their generous shirt sponsorship. Come out and see the next generation play for Finn Harps.
