The Finn Harps U15s get their season up and running again on tomorrow (Saturday 10th August) with an away fixture against Derry City at Newbuildings (kick-off 2pm). Three weeks have passed since the 15s last tasted competitive action away to Bray Wanderers. A disappointing 3-0 defeat made the journey home that bit longer on that occasion.
However, an excellent Foyle Cup campaign saw the 15s reach the final under Mikey Grant and Trevor Gorman, only to lose to tomorrow’s opponents Derry in the decider. This will be the fourth meeting of the sides this year and Candystripes have taken the bragging rights in the last two encounters.
Looking ahead to the weekend, Head coach, Paul McBride, reflected on the positives of the Foyle Cup, “We’re looking forward to getting back to league action. Our last match was disappointing. We allowed Bray to get away from us in the second half and we can have no complaints about the defeat. The Foyle Cup campaign gave the lads a great boost. It allowed Mikey and Trevor to get a few of our lads back in action after injuries and the team’s performances improved throughout the week.
It’s going to be a busy month ahead for the 15s and McBride points to the importance of squad depth, “This weekend will see us play the first of five matches during August. The squad depth helped us massively at the Foyle Cup and it will again be vital starting this weekend. We know what to expect playing Derry and to be fair to the lads, I’ve no doubt they’ll be up for it when the game comes around.”
Harps have reported a clean bill of health from the squad ahead of the fourth northwest derby of the year. Kick-off tomorrow is set for 2pm at Newbuildings.
