Members of the Finn Harps Academy enjoyed a very valuable football experience at the prestigious Premier Cup in Belfast on Saturday winning the 2008 Advanced Section, defeating Glenavon in the final. Head of the Harps Academy Kevin McHugh has praised the young players for the way they competed against some of the top teams.
“It’s great for the players and our Academy in general to know that they can go and compete with the best squads out there, regardless of winning a trophy on Saturday. The way they conducted themselves and how they played under pressure was the real success story of the day. Seeing these young boys playing under pressure in tight areas is what our Academy is all about and why I love being involved in coaching” McHugh said.
McHugh has also acknowledged the contribution of the coaches to the success of the Academy experience in Belfast. “Great credit to their Academy coaches Conrad, Dessie, Lee and James who have done great work to date and a special mention to their schoolboy clubs and coaches for their development to date. They all know come Sunday they will need to knuckle down again and improve on their efforts and put the weekend behind them.”
